This means that CW_CUBES_PATH is correctly set. Do not forget to set the
CW_MODE environment variable to 'user' otherwise instance configuration
files will end up in /etc/cubicweb.d/<inst>.

Ther error message is probably a bit misleading here. I would say that
some of intranet's dependencies are missing. The cubicweb-ctl command is
supposed to warn you of such errors. Could you confirm ?

Here are the list of packages you should probably download (if not
already installed on your system with apt-get) :

ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-book-0.6.0.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-blog-1.9.0.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-card-0.3.0.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-comment-1.7.1.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-event-1.3.0.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-folder-1.8.0.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-tag-1.7.0.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-task-1.5.0.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-person-1.7.1.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.logilab.org/pub/cubicweb/cubes/cubicweb-addressbook-1.6.0.tar.gz

The following three links are worth reading if you haven't read them yet :

http://docs.cubicweb.org/admin/setup.html
http://docs.cubicweb.org/tutorials/base/create-cube.html
http://docs.cubicweb.org/tutorials/advanced/index.html

Hope this helps.
